Two Island Design Build LLC is named after Two Island Lake in Grand Marais, MN.

The idea for this company was formed during a long-weekend trip with my husband; a visit to the little piece of property we own on the shore of this calm, quiet, clear water lake surrounded by the Superior National Forest.

That particular weekend trip was infused with long talks about the 22 years I had been designing and remodeling homes in the Minneapolis metro area.

We reminisced about the joy and the difficulties, and of the experiences and knowledge I had gained along the way.

For the ten years or so between the Great Recession and the Pandemic, I had allowed myself to sink into a cycle of ambition, overwork, and burnout.

It became routine to look past flawed work environments and misaligned values when I was so busy being grateful for the opportunity to work with amazing homeowners to create the perfect homes to live their lives the way they were meant to be lived!

After two decades of working for others, we decided it was time for me to step off the hamster wheel and create my own space to enjoy life.

This little lake in the wilderness has been a peaceful source of rejuvenation, inspiration, and hope – a reset that I can only describe as awakening.

I can think of no better way to honor that, than to name this company after Two Island Lake.

I came away from that trip to our little piece of paradise with a company name, a napkin-sketch of a logo, and a brand-new approach to serving people – including myself – by way of remodeling homes.
